Shawn's Scoop

A Year of Healing and New Traditions

2022 PrideSTL Royalty Court - Mr. Pride, Shawn Patrick is featured on the right.

A newsletter from Mr. Pride STL is something new I wanted to incorporate into my reign; and also something I will hope will be carried out for many years to come.

You may be wondering what my “plan” or “goal” is in producing a newsletter.  By producing a newsletter I hope to provide the community with details, information exciting events, and shows I participated in during the current month, along with plans for the following month.  I also intend on “spotlighting” a former Pride Royalty Court Member where I will discuss the impact they’ve had on me since my crowing.  Additionally, I intend to “spotlight” a Pride STL Board Member each month, sharing the impact they’ve had on me and my reign!

When I made the decision to run for Mr. Pride STL 2022, I knew that winning would come with a great deal of responsibility.  The Growth I’ve had in this short amount of time has been tremendous; and an experience I wouldn’t change for anything.  Since capturing the title of Mr. Pride STL 2022 it’s been an exciting whirlwind!!  The entire Pride Royalty Court hit the ground running!

I’ve made it a priority to stay true to my word.  During my interview I told the Judges one of my goals was to be a more “visible” Mr. Pride STL in the community, while being authentic to who I am, and to be a Mr. Pride STL who’s focus was on reuniting and healing our community.

Since winning I have been all over the city, from Downtown to Ballpark Village, from Soulard to St. Charles.  The Grey Fox to Rehab, and from Prism to BAR:PM.  I have had the pleasure of working alongside some amazing entertainers, icons, and role models.

Shortly after winning the Pride Royalty Court was invited to partake in a brunch show hosted by “Live by Loews” where we had the distinct pleasure of working alongside Seymour Chilton, Chevelle Brooks, and Simora Bonet.  The venue was absolutely amazing, (the staff even more amazing) and the time backstage PRICELESS!

To “kickoff” Pride, we started the month with a bang at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten for the official Pride Kickoff Party. It was a night of fun, memories, and an awesome way to start off Pride Month with a bang!

On June 11th I hit the streets of Soulard to show our fellow pride organization (Soulard Pride) love and support as they held their very first street festival! This was an amazing festival with great vendors, great entertainment, and an amazing board who worked tirelessly to put on an incredible event, and they did just that! I am excited to see their festival grow in the years to follow.

The Pride Royalty Court had the honor of working at Rehab Bar & Grill for Lucy Couture's “Messy Mondays Show” (when Lucy says MESSY we all say MONDAYS)!  This was an amazing show and a great experience!  A huge thank you to Lucy for putting on a fun show and extending the invite.

I was then invited by Tabbi Katt, (which, fun fact Tabbi is the only individual to hold a title twice in the Pride STL Royatly History, Mr. Pride STL 2008 & 2009) to join her at Bar:PM for ABFab Fridays. Thank you to the bar staff and other entertainers for making me feel at home!

On June 18th Mars, King of Pride STL and I went out to Support another fellow Pride Organization, Pride St. Charles.  It was a wonderful experience and the best part is it was held INDOORS!  The opportunity to show the unity and love across the Missouri River was amazing and I cannot thank Pride St. Charles enough for the opportunity to come out and preform.

The Pride Royalty Court then kicked off Pride Week at Drag Karaoke with Sara Shay and Brother Daniel at the Grey Fox.

Then it was time for the BIG weekend. PRIDE STL was an amazing experience. From the festival, to my opportunity to perform on the mainstage (where we also welcomed our Sister Queen of Pride from Kansas City Community Pride Alliance) to the parade on Sunday, and everything in between. Todd Alan and his team did an amazing job with the VIP Tent.  The entire weekend, love, pride, and joy was felt all around. On Saturday Night of Pride Weekend, we were invited to the City Museum by our good sister, Queen of Pride 2014, Akasha Royale for their “Wild about Pride Night”. I was challenged to step outside my comfort zone and try something new. The outcome was amazing (FEATHERS for days)!

To ring in the month of July I was invited to the “Makeup and Mimosas Show” at Prism by the ever so amazing Kirsten Dubo. I was able to share the stage with Miss Gay Missouri United States at Large, Roxxy Malone, Shelbie Reightback, and Kirsten. The bar staff was wonderfully accommodating and hospitable.  I had a great time; and look forward to working with Kirsten and crew again soon.

As I look towards the month of July I will be saying “goodbye” to my 20’s and ushering in my 30’s (time truly does fly by)!  I’ll be taking a short weekend trip to celebrate my birthday with family and friends.  Upon my return you can catch me on Monday July 25th at “Drag Him to Hell” with Justin Syder (who will be returning from a National Pageant).  We will be celebrating him and the fact that regardless of the outcome, he still made it to the National Showman stage!! Then on Wednesday July 27th, the Pride Royalty Court will be performing at the “3,2,1 Countdown to the Weekend Show” with Tassandra Crush at Rehab Bar & Grill.  I hope to see all of you at one of the above-referenced shows, and/or out and about in the community!!

Until next time, do something good for yourself and always do something good for somebody else.

Shawn Patrick
